Positive affirmations might just be the most powerful trick in the self help world. These affirmations keep you focused and driven on good days. On bad days, when you find yourself struggling to keep the faith, these affirmations can serve as a course corrector when you're drifting off your path.
Those words - positive affirmations - can cause some people to roll their eyes and think you're some self help freak. I know we're all supposed to not care what others think about us, but we're human and we do care. Sure we can learn not to care. However, not caring is typically a byproduct of taking action and putting your true self out there again and again.
What I'm trying to say is being worried about others judging you for your positive affirmation statements should not be a reason to avoid creating any in the first place. It's okay to
start small and secretive
All you need is some sticky notes, a pen, and an affirmation or dream that speaks to you and read up on these 5 ways to secretly stash affirmations around you.
1. Your Wallet
Add a note into the clear ID section of your wallet. Every time you open your wallet the note will be there to greet you.
2. A Drawer
Place a note to the inside of a dresser or bathroom drawer. Every morning as you get ready for the day you'll be greeted by words of encouragement.
3. Your Phone
Add daily reminders to your phone. You can set up reminders to go off daily, weekly, or monthly. This one was huge for me when my husband and I were in the process of buying our home. I had reminders set throughout the months long process congratulating me on closing on our home, for securing a loan for the house, for it being sold to us for a certain price. These reminders really saved my morale when fear started creeping in. I currently have 6 different reminders set. From encouraging me to sit up straight "shoulders back, your posture is excellent" to cheering on my creativity "Brooke, you have permission to create anything you desire". And let me tell you, whenever that posture one goes off I stop slouching and grow 2 inches taller in a matter of seconds.
4. Again, Your Phone
Might as well put the tool you check countless times a day to good use! By using a graphic design tool like Over or Canva (both have free versions with all the features you would need) you can create a custom phrase and then add it as your phone's wallpaper in mere minutes.
5. Your Car
Add a sticky note somewhere near the dash on your car. I don't know about you, but I spend a lot of time in my car commuting through traffic to my j-o-b that is supporting my passion career (building Careations). I currently have a note about supporting myself with only Careations in my car, constantly there to remind me of what I'm working towards.
After incorporating one or many of the above suggestions you might get more comfortable with these affirmations. By the end of this year you may very well have these statements displayed loud and proud for all to see.
Now your turn. Do you use positive affirmations in your life or do you shy away from them? Let me know in the comments below.
